Mission Trips

History

The President of Randolph World Ministries, Inc., Tim R. Randolph (top row, second from the right), has been involved in mission trips to Haiti since 1999. However, since the establishment of Randolph World Ministries, Inc. in 2001, we have been conducting annual medical mission trips to Haiti. These medical mission trips have historically been two weeks in length and occur each summer between the third week of May and the end of July. However, as the ministry continues to grow, the frequency and duration of mission trips are changing. Nonetheless, each year we make at least one trip to Haiti in the summer sometime during the month of June. Please contact Tim directly for the duration of a specific medical mission trip.

Timing/Logistics

The annual medical mission trips generally begin on a Saturday morning when the ministry van departs from Collinsville, IL loaded with 400+ pounds of medial supplies and some of the medical mission trip team members aboard. Day one (Saturday) we drive to Atlanta, Georgia and at the end of day two we arrive in Fort Pierce, Florida on Sunday evening. The team generally enjoys a day at the beach on Monday while Tim unloads, registers, and weighs the medial supplies with Missionary Flights International (MFI). The team is asked to arrive at the Fort Pierce airport Tuesday morning at 7:00am to depart for Haiti. We arrive at the airport in Cap-Haitian, Haiti around noon and remain at the airport for a few hours to complete customs processing. We are picked up by OMS missionaries at the airport and usually arrive at the OMS compound in Vaudreuil, Haiti just outside Cap-Haitian by mid-afternoon around the time the clinic day is over. We spend 9 to 25 days in country depending on the number of labs that need serviced that year and the size of the medical mission team. The day of departure we leave the OMS compound around 10:00am and depart from the Cap-Haitian airport around 2:00pm. We arrive in Fort Pierce, FL in the early evening and depart for home the following morning. Again we allow two days to travel home and arrive in Collinsville, IL in the evening.

Team members who are unable to join the medical mission team in Collinsville, IL (near St. Louis, MO) upon departure Saturday morning are free to fly or drive to Fort Pierce, FL and meet up with the team no later than Monday evening prior to departure.

Qualifications

Randolph World Ministries, Inc. offers medical mission ministry opportunities to anyone who feels called to participate. Expertise and/or experience in a branch of medicine is not necessary but highly valued. We can find ministry opportunities for individuals with any skill set. However, individuals with a variety of medical degrees are encouraged to participate to include but not limited to physicians, laboratory professionals, therapists (OT and PT), nurses, X-ray techs, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, physician assistants, health information managers, dieteticians, etc. If more individuals apply for a slot on a team than can be accommodated in a given year, priority will be given to those with a medical background and experience in foreign medical missions.

Please realize that Randolph World Ministries, Inc. is a Christian-based ministry and actively engages in Christian evangelism while administering medial services. In addition, our transport partners, MFI, and the organization that owns the compound on which we stay, OMS, are Protestant-Christian ministry organizations. Randolph World Ministries, Inc. does not discriminate based on religious affiliations or faith traditions with the exceptions of faith traditions that operate in direct opposition to Christianity.

However, participation in certain Christian activities to include morning devotions, morning worship with clinic staff, Wednesday evening worship with the missionaries, and Sunday morning worship in a local Haitian church are required activities. Leadership in these Christian activities are made available to all team members but is not required of any team member.

Costs

Costs of the annual medial mission trip can be divided into four categories; preparatory costs, travel expenses to and from Fort Pierce, Florida, airfare from Fort Pierce, FL to Cap-Haitien Haiti, and room and board cost while in Haiti. Preparatory costs include the acquisition of immunizations, medicines, and a passport. Consult your local health care provider or travel office for the recommended immunization for a two-week mission trip to Haiti. Most travel offices will recommend immunizations against Hepatitis B and typhoid and booster shots for tetanus if necessary. Anti-malaria medications are also recommended and chloroquin is still effective in Haiti. The travel costs to Fort Pierce depend on whether you travel with the team in the ministry van, drive yourself, or fly to Fort Pierce, FL. The costs of the Fort Pierce Hotel the evening before we depart and the evening after we return, MFI round trip airfare, and room and board costs for nine days in country (two-week trip) are paid together to OMS and cost approximately $1,000 per person. Therefore, the total cost of a two-week medical mission trip to Haiti will cost $1,000 per person plus the costs of immunizations, anti-malarial drugs, passport, and travel costs to and from Ft. Pierce, Florida. Feel free to visit the websites of OMS and MFI by clicking the related links button.
